The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal has affirmed the Indian government's decision to impose a five-year ban on the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang), commonly referred to as NSCN (K), including its factions and allied groups. The Tribunal's order, issued by Presiding Officer Justice Nelson Sailo, highlighted that the organization's activities compromise India's sovereignty and integrity as they aim to secede from the country.
The order, issued on March 19 and made public recently, stated the nature of activities conducted by NSCN (K) and its associated elements clearly indicated an act of waging war against India. Consequently, the government moved to enforce the ban starting September 28, 2025.
Under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Centre must refer such bans to the Tribunal within 30 days for evaluation. This procedure was duly followed, leading to the affirmation of the ban on NSCN (K).
