A seven-month-old baby tragically lost its life due to a stray bullet during a shooting incident in Brooklyn, authorities reported on Wednesday. The shooting, believed to be gang-related, resulted in the baby's death as the unintended victim.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed deep sorrow, stating, "There are no words that can mend the heartbreak this family is feeling right now." The incident occurred around 1:20 pm when two men on a moped opened fire at a group on a sidewalk.
Both men on the moped later crashed a few blocks from the scene, leaving one hospitalized and in custody. The other remains at large. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the day as "a tragedy that truly shocks the conscience," highlighting the challenges still facing the city despite a decrease in crime rates.
