As West Bengal prepares for its assembly election, the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has ignited protests throughout the state over alleged voter name deletions. Roads and highways are being blocked, causing disruptions in districts like Malda, Jalpaiguri, and Purba Bardhaman.
Agitators have accused the ruling authority of conspiracy to influence the elections, leading Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to point fingers at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for stirring unrest. The blocking of National Highway 12 further escalated tensions, capturing the Supreme Court's attention.
Despite promises from local authorities to address grievances, the protests have persisted, affecting traffic on major routes like National Highway-27.
