The Election Commission has entrusted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) with the investigation into the gherao and assault on judicial officers in West Bengal's Malda district.
This decision follows a rebuke from the Supreme Court, which condemned the state administration for its lackluster response to the incident that occurred during the electoral rolls revision drive.
The NIA is required to conduct a comprehensive inquiry and submit a preliminary report to the Hon'ble court, as directed. An NIA team is expected to arrive in the state shortly.
