The National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched an investigation into the alleged murder of a 12-year-old girl in an occult ritual in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district. An NCW panel visited the area on Friday to speak with the victim's family, neighbors, and witnesses.
Challenges arose as local authorities delayed providing crucial documents necessary for the investigation. The NCW expressed frustration at not being allowed to meet with either the investigating officers or the accused, citing the latter's judicial custody.
Three people, including the girl's mother, have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the tragic ritual. Authorities claim the crime links to attempts at a sacrificial act meant to cure another family member's sickness.
