KVR Murty has officially assumed the role of Whole-Time Member at the markets regulator, SEBI, signaling a transformative phase in corporate governance. Previously, Murty was the Additional Controller General of Defence Accounts in India's Ministry of Defence, leveraging his vast experience in national security and financial management.
Murty, an economics postgraduate from the prestigious Delhi School of Economics, has spent over 30 years in various high-impact roles within the government. His key positions have included Principal Integrated Financial Adviser to the Indian Air Force and Financial Adviser at the Defence Research and Development Organisation. As Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, he spearheaded policy innovations and e-governance advancements.
During his tenure as Joint Secretary, Murty was instrumental in shaping and implementing reforms to simplify business processes, notably decriminalizing corporate laws. His efforts contributed significantly to the government's Jan Vishwas Bill and improving ease of doing business. His extensive work with government companies on schemes, mergers, and corporate law reforms highlights his pivotal role in shaping India's corporate landscape.
