In an escalating conflict over alleged encroachment of protected land, a mob rampaged through a forest range office in Assam's Chirang district, leaving several injured. Tension rose after local residents, said to be from the Adivasi community, accused forest personnel of assaulting them.
As a security measure, authorities swiftly suspended mobile internet services in Chirang and nearby Kokrajhar districts to curtail the spread of potentially inflammatory messages. Protestors not only vandalized the government premises but also set vehicles ablaze, demanding action against the forest personnel responsible.
The chaotic situation was brought under control following the intervention of senior police officers and the deployment of additional security forces. Officials reported injuries among both the forest and police personnel, while assessing the damage to government properties.
