The Kannur District and Principal Sessions Court denied anticipatory bail to Dr. M K Ram, a prime suspect in the death of a student at Kannur Dental College. The court simultaneously granted relief to another faculty member, Dr. Sangeetha Nambiar, amid allegations of harassment linked to the student's death.
Police initially filed a case of unnatural death following the April 10 incident involving first-year BDS student Nithin Raj. They later implicated Ram and Nambiar for allegedly abetting suicide and violating the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, fueled by the family's claims of caste-based harassment.
The court cited the need for a comprehensive investigation while noting the involvement of loan app operators. It criticized a potential media trial, urging fair reporting. Evidence pointed to Ram's alleged general harshness towards students rather than specific caste-based abuse.
