In a significant call to action, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has urged the creation of a formal national framework to harness the skills of retired judges in alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Speaking at a conference, he emphasized the importance of involving former judges in mediation, arbitration, and legal education.

Surya Kant highlighted the invaluable experience of retired judges, suggesting their potential roles as mediators, legal educators, and pre-litigation counsellors. He noted that their continued engagement holds immense value and should be institutionalized with appropriate accountability and support.

Rajasthan's leadership also recognized the vital role of retired judges. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma stressed that their expertise improves legal access and social harmony, endorsing the expansion of ADR mechanisms like Lok Adalats to ease court burdens.
