Controversial Bill: A Shake in Political Stability

A parliamentary joint committee is reviewing a bill aimed at automatically removing government leaders embroiled in significant criminal charges. The joint committee of Parliament reviewing a contentious bill concerning the removal of top government officials facing criminal charges will meet Maharashtra officials on Monday.

Led by BJP's Aparajita Sarangi, the committee, which also includes legal experts and retired judges, is currently touring Maharashtra and Odisha to gather insights regarding the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill.

The proposed legislation seeks to automatically remove leaders like the prime minister and chief ministers from office if detained for over 30 days for serious crimes. However, opposition parties have criticized the move, claiming it's intended to destabilize non-BJP governments.
