The cyber wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police registered an FIR against unidentified people for circulating a video of late separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on social media. Officials claim the video glorifies separatist content, prompting legal action.
This development follows a post by Peoples Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti, who shared Geelani's video with the caption that, despite differing with Geelani's views, the video highlights the important role of the Urdu language. Mufti recently led protests against removing Urdu as a requirement for recruiting in the Revenue Department.
Junaid Azim Mattu, former Srinagar Mayor, criticized the FIR, urging its withdrawal. Although he expressed disagreement with the video's content, Mattu called the FIR excessive and emphasized the context of its posting.
