A POCSO court in Kota has handed down a 20-year prison sentence to a 35-year-old man convicted of raping a 7-year-old girl last September. The accused, from Baran district, is reportedly a relative of the victim.
According to public prosecutor Virendra Bhanawat, the distressing incident took place on September 1, 2024. The man allegedly lured the young girl, a Class 2 student, with edibles before taking her to his room and committing the heinous act. Both the convict, who works as a daily wager, and the victim were from the same neighborhood.
The sentencing followed a thorough judicial process, during which the court heard the testimonies of 18 witnesses and scrutinized 32 documents. Bhanawat affirmed that justice was served through a comprehensive examination of the evidence presented.
