Two FIRs have been filed against prominent leaders in Goa, raising concerns over religious sentiments. Congress leader Girish Chodankar and tribal leader Govind Shirodkar were accused of making statements that outraged religious communities.
The first FIR targeted Chodankar for allegedly distorting 'Ma Durga' aarti, a claim that sparked protests by the Hindu Ekta Samiti outside the state's police headquarters. Meanwhile, Shirodkar's remarks regarding the DNA of Goans being linked to St Francis Xavier also led to legal actions.
This unrest follows the recent arrest and subsequent bail of right-wing speaker Gautam Khattar, who faced criticism for his comments about the patron saint of Goa. The police are continuing their investigation, with further actions to be determined according to the law.
