In a striking move, the Supreme Court on Monday called on the Karnataka government to provide a detailed report regarding the conditions actor Darshan faces in jail. Darshan, embroiled in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, has alleged that his incarceration is marred by a lack of fundamental necessities such as food.
The complaint from Darshan's legal representative, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, follows a previous court ruling that no 'five-star' accommodations were to be offered in prison, a decision reportedly affecting basic provisions for the actor. Justice J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan's bench is probing whether these basic rights are violated.
The bench has mandated information on trial status, witness testimonies, and timelines for case completion, pressing the state for clarity within a week. Darshan, along with actress Pavithra Gowda, is charged with the abduction and torment of a fan in Bengaluru, whose body was later found lifeless.
