The Supreme Court has rendered a decision allowing Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, to approach the Patna High Court regarding a petition for upgrading his security detail from 'Y' to 'Z'.
Yadav, who represents Bihar's Purnia constituency, referred to threats from the notorious gang led by Lawrance Bishnoi as the reason for his request. His legal counsel expressed frustration over the continued delay at the High Court, which issued a notice in November 2024 but has not yet listed the case for a hearing.
During the proceedings, the Supreme Court inquired about the necessity for 'Z' category security, and Yadav's counsel highlighted the threats while acknowledging the lack of private protection services. The apex court reassured that the High Court would consider the petition and encouraged a formal application to expedite the matter.
