The CPI(M)-led Left Front faced a tough challenge in the West Bengal assembly elections, securing a lead in just one constituency, as per the Election Commission's data. The front, which contested 252 seats, saw its ally, the All India Secular Front (AISF), leading in only one seat.

A notable success for the Left appeared in Domkal, Murshidabad, where CPI(M) candidate Md Mostafijur Rahaman was leading by 8,877 votes after five rounds of counting. However, many of CPI(M)'s prominent leaders struggled, with senior leaders like Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya and Minakshi Mukherjee falling behind their counterparts from the BJP and TMC.

Despite the seat-sharing strategy within the Left Front, where CPI(M) contested 195 seats and other allies like the Forward Bloc, CPI, and RSP contested fewer, the coalition's performance was lackluster. The counting of votes for the 293 assembly seats began at 8 am, but as the day progressed, it became clear the Left's influence had waned significantly in this electoral battle.
