The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clinched a surprise victory in the Monteswar seat, West Bengal, besting the sitting TMC minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury by 14,798 votes, as declared by the Election Commission on Monday. The outcome illustrates the mounting pressure on the ruling TMC ahead of the full assembly results.
In contrast, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) maintained its stronghold in the Bhagawangola constituency. Reyat Hossain Sarkar delivered a substantial triumph over CPI(M)'s Mahamudal Hasan by a margin of 56,407 votes, reinforcing TMC's leverage in specific areas despite statewide challenges.
This election period is crucial for West Bengal, as poll results for 293 seats unfold. The BJP's lead in 195 assembly seats indicates a possible political reshuffle in a state traditionally governed by the TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
