A tense rescue operation unfolded off the South Aegean island of Andros early Wednesday after a cargo ship hit rocks and sank. The vessel, flying the Vanuatu flag, saw all nine crew members rescued by the Greek coast guard, a spokesperson revealed.

The crew, consisting of one Azerbaijani and eight Turkish nationals, was aboard the Corsage C heading from Albania to Ukraine with 3,000 metric tons of baking soda. The ship's sudden grounding prompted an immediate investigation into the incident, authorities announced.

Preventive measures against potential pollution included deploying four anti-pollution ships and a floating sea barrier. Meanwhile, the Turkey-based operator of the stricken ship remains unreachable for comments on the accident that generated considerable international interest.
