Anandilal Meena, a senior official in the Agriculture Extension department in Rajasthan's Baran district, found himself in the grips of the law after an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sting operation. Accused of accepting bribes for verifying stock registers, Meena was apprehended while receiving a sum of Rs 8,000 from local traders.
The Joint Director of Agriculture Extension was reportedly caught red-handed demanding Rs 5,000 from one trader and Rs 3,000 from another. Complaints surfaced when Meena allegedly asked numerous fertiliser and seed dealers in the district to pay Rs 5,000 each to have their stock records verified.
The ACB, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Premchand, set up a trap after confirming Meena's earlier acceptance of Rs 2,000 from the complainants. The agency has launched an extensive investigation to see if more traders were victimized or involved in the corruption scheme. Meena faces charges under the Anti-Corruption Act.
