Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe visited Palghar's hospital on Wednesday, where a 13-year-old rape survivor is admitted. She expressed outrage over the incident involving a 55-year-old self-proclaimed healer accused of abducting and raping the minor tribal girl. Following this, she demanded stringent action against similar crimes across Maharashtra.
During her visit, Gorhe met with the victim's family, ensuring comprehensive support from the government. She emphasized the necessity for rigorous implementation of laws like the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013. Simultaneously, she pushed for the establishment of more fast-track courts to expedite justice.
Simultaneously, Opposition MLA Rohit Pawar highlighted the national rise in crimes against women, advocating for stricter laws against such offenses. With significant concerns about supernatural beliefs affecting justice, Pawar urged for tougher anti-superstition legislation, pointing to inefficiencies in Maharashtra's legal framework.
