A man has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur for allegedly swindling a man in the Jharkhand capital to the tune of Rs 8.52 crore in an online fraud promising high profits from forex trading, police said on Monday. The Jharkhand Crime Investigation Department took up a probe into the matter after the Ranchi-based man lodged an FIR with the cyber police station here on March 10. ''The complainant was lured with the promise of high profits in forex trading through a social media platform. Thereafter, money was deposited into different bank accounts on various dates in the name of investment. Fake profits were shown initially to gain the complainant's trust,'' said the CID in a statement. The probe found the platform was fake and was being used as a medium for cyber fraud, through which approximately Rs 8.52 crore was defrauded from the complainant, it stated. Based on the investigation, the accused was arrested from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh with the help of the local police, the Jharkhand CID said.
