The Congress party has voiced strong disapproval over the recent appointments of Manoj Agarwal and Subrata Gupta in West Bengal, alleging them to be indicative of a nexus between the Election Commission and the BJP. The appointments are claimed to signify unapologetic political bias.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary of communications, articulated concerns about Manoj Agarwal, a former chief election officer, becoming the new West Bengal chief secretary. Similarly, Subrata Gupta's advisory role to Chief Minister Suvendu Banerjee further raises questions on electoral impartiality.
Ramesh highlighted the exclusion of 91 lakh voters under Agarwal’s oversight as an EC official, hinting at strategies that potentially favored the BJP. These developments emerge amid a bureaucratic reshuffle within the West Bengal administration.
