In a dramatic turn of events, Gurpreet Singh, a 46-year-old ex-Army man, met a fatal end in a police encounter after being accused of a triple murder spree in Chandauli district. The gruesome chain of events had left three people dead, including victims from train attacks and a hospital shooting.
Superintendent of Police Akash Patel described how Singh, a resident of Amritsar, undertook his first murder on May 10 on a train between Prayagraj and Chandauli, and continued with more killings within 24 hours. He targeted victims at random, including a patient in a hospital, raising alarms for public safety.
While recreating a crime scene, Singh attempted an escape by seizing a police firearm, triggering a violent confrontation that resulted in his death by gunfire and left two officers injured. Singh's actions, linked to deteriorating mental health post-Army service, shocked the community.
