Uranium Enrichment: Iran's Tense Nuclear Standoff
Iranian parliamentary spokesman Ebrahim Rezaei announced the potential for Iran to enrich uranium to 90% purity if attacked again. This statement highlights the fragile state of U.S.-Iran relations amid ongoing ceasefire questions. The unresolved issue of Iran's uranium stockpile remains a critical discussion point in diplomatic negotiations.
Iranian parliamentary spokesman Ebrahim Rezaei announced on Tuesday that Iran could escalate its uranium enrichment to 90% purity, a level deemed weapons-grade, if the nation faces another attack.
Rezaei, speaking on behalf of the parliamentary national security and foreign policy commission, indicated on social media platform X that a decision regarding this enrichment level would be reviewed in parliament. This announcement comes amid U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that the current ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is precarious.
Following last June's U.S. and Israeli strikes, which Trump described as having 'obliterated' Iran's nuclear facilities, the potential for enrichment remains a key diplomatic contention. Negotiations continue with Tehran pushing to discuss nuclear stockpile issues later, while Washington demands Iran relocate its enriched uranium abroad and halt domestic enrichment.
