The state of Gujarat is set to launch the first phase of Census 2027 from June 1, according to the Director of Census Operations, Sujal Mayatra. Initially scheduled for April, the exercise was postponed due to local body elections. This phase will focus on door-to-door house listing across 34 districts and 17 municipal corporations.

In a press briefing, Mayatra highlighted a significant shift towards digital governance. Residents will have the option to participate using a self-enumeration portal from May 17 to May 31. Field enumerators will collect data on housing conditions and assets through a new mobile app throughout June.

For the first time, citizens can submit information regarding their homes and amenities online at the government's census portal. Around 1.10 lakh personnel will cover the operation, and strict confidentiality will be maintained as per the Census Act, 1948. Mayatra urged residents to cooperate with enumerators for a smooth and successful exercise.
