An audacious robbery in the northern Czech Republic has left the faithful in shock after an 800-year-old skull believed to be of Saint Zdislava of Lemberk was stolen from a church display box. Authorities stated that a man dressed in black seized the relic at the Saint Lawrence and Saint Zdislava basilica in Jablonne v Podjestedi, just 110 kilometers north of Prague.
The theft occurred swiftly, with the blurred image from a security camera showing the alleged thief clasping the sacred skull while weaving through the church benches. Saint Zdislava, who lived between 1220 and 1252, is revered for her charity and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1995.
The incident has been a severe blow to the local religious community. Prague Archbishop Stanislav Pribyl expressed his dismay, highlighting the irreplaceable historical and spiritual significance of the relic that has drawn pilgrims for generations. The theft, occurring in near daylight, has shaken the sense of security among churchgoers.
