The Assam cabinet's recent approval of the Uniform Civil Code marks a significant legislative move while ensuring the exclusion of tribal communities, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The UCC focuses on modernizing laws related to marriage, polygamy, property rights for daughters, and live-in relationships.
In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's fuel conservation call, the cabinet rolled out a series of austerity measures including reducing fuel consumption and limiting official travel and procurements. This comes amidst the ongoing West Asia crisis, highlighting proactive governance.
Additionally, the formation of a Manifesto Implementation Cell to oversee BJP's electoral commitments and a task force to provide jobs to two lakh youth underscore the government's commitment to fulfilling its electoral pledges. Cultural initiatives include the conclusion of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's centenary celebrations with a ceremony in New Delhi.
