BRICS Meeting Highlights Need for Dialogue Amid Rising Tensions
During the BRICS meeting in New Delhi, foreign ministers emphasize the critical role of peace and dialogue in maintaining the global order. Tensions between member countries Iran and the UAE challenge consensus on a joint statement, illustrating the need for constructive diplomacy within the group.
The significance of peace in maintaining global order was underscored by India's Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during the BRICS group's meeting in New Delhi. This forum, held amid tensions between members Iran and the United Arab Emirates, spotlighted the urgent need for dialogue and diplomacy.
The group, originally comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, expanded in 2011 to include South Africa. The inclusion of countries like Iran and the UAE has presented challenges, especially given the U.S.-Israeli conflict involving Iran. Attending ministers include Iran's Abbas Araqchi and the UAE's Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar.
Jaishankar emphasized the growing expectation that BRICS will play a stabilizing role, particularly for emerging markets. The current discord underlines the importance of constructive engagement to reach consensus, especially in the face of geopolitical tensions.
