The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday demanded clarity on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's numerous foreign trips, questioning whether the expenses align with his declared income. Addressing the media, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra raised concerns over 54 trips abroad costing Rs 60 crore over 22 years.
Patra alleged a mismatch between Gandhi's expenses and his year-on-year income as revealed in his poll affidavits. While claiming that these trips highlight a legal breach concerning the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), the BJP leader further called for disclosures from Gandhi and the Congress party regarding the trips' financiers.
The BJP also pointed to recent regulatory breaches, such as six undeclared trips violating security protocols. Patra suggested these practices raise governance and legal compliance questions, especially given Gandhi's political ambitions. The BJP expects further scrutiny over these trips in the coming days.
