Journalist's OCI Conversion Rejected Amid Allegations of Fact Suppression

The Delhi High Court has recalled an earlier decision supporting Siddharth Varadarajan's bid to change his Person of Indian Origin status to Overseas Citizen of India. The court alleged that Varadarajan suppressed a crucial fact: a 2020 Allahabad High Court order that imposed travel restrictions related to a criminal case.
Judge Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav criticized Varadarajan for failing to disclose these details, saying petitioners should come forward with full disclosure. The court also dismissed previous orders allowing him to seek a 'return visa' and travel internationally, pending a new hearing.
Varadarajan’s overseas citizen application was contested due to failure in converting his PIO card to an OCI card automatically after 2015. These legal entanglements arise from a case tied to allegedly controversial tweets targeting Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister.
