Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal took a ride in an e-rickshaw from the Bikaner railway station to his residence, shunning a convoy of vehicles in a bid to promote fuel conservation. This move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for reduced fuel consumption amid a global energy crisis.
Arriving from Delhi, Meghwal, who represents the Bikaner constituency, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, noting their potential impact on conserving foreign exchange and reducing reliance on petrol and diesel. His actions echo those of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, who has also minimized vehicle use in official convoys.
Prime Minister Modi's broader strategy emphasizes the need for austerity, encouraging citizens to use public transport, electric vehicles, and work-from-home options to mitigate the energy crisis effects. The measures aim to lessen the economic impact while advancing sustainable transportation solutions.
