The announcement was made at a press conference led by AICC in-charge of Kerala, Deepa Dasmunsi, along with central party observers Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik, and General Secretary Jairam Ramesh in charge of communications.
Deepa Dasmunsi informed reporters of the decision, which was based on comprehensive discussions with party leaders and backed by the Congress president's authorization. Other contenders such as KC Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala were in the race, but Satheesan emerged as the unanimous choice.
The announcement followed extended consultations within the party, involving high-level discussions between the Congress president and prominent leaders such as Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The decision marks the conclusion of deliberations that began after the Congress-led UDF's victory in the legislative elections with a significant majority.
