Smuggling Saga: Diamonds Worth Rs 5.70 Crore Seized at Mumbai Airport

Two passengers were held at Mumbai airport for attempting to smuggle diamonds worth Rs 5.70 crore to Bangkok by concealing them inside their bodies. The DRI has arrested and is questioning them, suspecting an international money laundering syndicate. The diamonds were seized under the Customs Act.

In a high-stakes operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted two passengers at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The duo was found attempting to smuggle diamonds valued at Rs 5.70 crore, which they had ingeniously concealed inside their bodies.

DRI officials revealed that the passengers had encapsulated the valuable gems before attempting to transport them to Bangkok. The diamonds, consisting of both natural and lab-grown varieties, were retrieved after the passengers were apprehended and subjected to thorough questioning.

This significant seizure highlights a suspected connection to an international money laundering syndicate, with the DRI launching a comprehensive investigation to trace the roots of the smuggling network. The diamonds have been confiscated under the provisions of the Customs Act.
