A devastating accident in Karnataka's Koppal district claimed the lives of seven individuals, including a one-year-old child, after a collision between a lorry and a tractor near a bridge. The accident took place as the tractor carried devotees to the Huligemma temple, causing it to veer off the Tungabhadra bridge, resulting in multiple casualties.
In response to the tragedy, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a compensation package of Rs 5 lakh for the grieving families. The Chief Minister expressed profound grief over the incident and emphasized on providing immediate aid to the affected families, who were largely from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The accident, which occurred under the Munirabad police jurisdiction, left 12 others injured, who are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals. Further investigations are ongoing as leaders, including Congress MP E Tukaram and BJP state president B Y Vijayendra, called for immediate support and care for the victims. The incident has drawn widespread condolences, highlighting the need for enhanced safety measures.
