West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced a zero tolerance stance against vandalism and violence following Sunday’s protests in Kolkata, which escalated over a bulldozer operation targeting illegal structures. The demonstrations, characterized by stone-pelting and vehicle vandalism, resulted in injuries to six police personnel and two CRPF jawans.

Adhikari, addressing the media after visiting the Park Circus area police station, stressed unrelenting support for law enforcement under his leadership, contrasting with previous regimes. He assured officers of protection and institutional backing, urging them to act without political or communal hesitation amidst the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) guidelines.

Highlighting the government's readiness to act decisively, Adhikari warned against repetition of such violence, emphasizing that cases would be monitored to conviction. He encouraged handling disputes through legal channels and announced plans for police modernisation, including additional paramilitary support and logistical improvements.
