West Bengal Fast-Tracks Jal Jeevan Mission for Rural Water Access

The West Bengal government signed an MoU with the Jal Shakti ministry to improve tap water coverage in rural areas under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The West Bengal government has taken a significant step by signing a memorandum of understanding with the Jal Shakti ministry to fast-track the Jal Jeevan Mission. This initiative aims to enhance tap water access in rural households, which previously faced delays and underutilization during the TMC's regime.

Chief Minister Adhikari emphasized the importance of this 'double-engine government' in bringing transformative changes, asserting that tangible progress would be seen soon. The MoU promises a Rs 39,000 crore investment in its second phase, focusing on delivering safe drinking water through household tap connections.

Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil highlighted the need for transparency and efficient service delivery, noting that while tap water coverage has increased, West Bengal still lags behind the national standard. The state is encouraged to expedite efforts like rainwater harvesting and land allocation for sewage treatment to ensure comprehensive implementation.
