Police in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district on Wednesday destroyed over 8 kg of seized narcotics and around 7,000 capsules related to 21 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, officials said.
The destruction was carried out by the district drug disposal committee as part of the special fortnight-long campaign to dispose seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in compliance with directions of the Union home ministry, they said.
The seized contraband including heroin, ganja (cannabis) and poppy straw was destroyed through controlled incineration at a facility in Vijaypur area of Samba district, officials said.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of a committee headed by senior superintendent of police, Reasi, in accordance with guidelines laid down by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), they said.
Police said the drive reflects Jammu and Kashmir Police's commitment towards curbing drug trafficking and building a drug-free society through sustained enforcement and public awareness initiatives.
