Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, to strengthen leadership development and build future-ready managerial capabilities within the organization.

The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SAIL's Management Training Institute (MTI) and MDI Gurgaon at SAIL's Corporate Office in New Delhi on 20 May 2026.

The partnership is aimed at designing and implementing advanced executive education programmes tailored specifically for SAIL executives, with a strong focus on leadership, innovation, strategy and organizational transformation.

According to officials, the collaboration seeks to combine academic expertise with practical industry-oriented learning to prepare SAIL's workforce for emerging business challenges, evolving technologies and global industrial trends.

The initiative is expected to support SAIL's long-term human resource development strategy by enhancing managerial competencies, strengthening strategic thinking and promoting innovation-driven leadership across the organization.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will jointly work on customized leadership development programmes, strategy-focused learning interventions and action-learning initiatives aimed at generating measurable business outcomes.

The partnership will also include overseas learning opportunities, collaborative research projects, consulting assignments and the development of industry-specific case studies designed to address real operational and managerial challenges faced within the steel sector.

Officials stated that the collaboration is intended to align SAIL's leadership development ecosystem with global best practices while fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.

The MoU was signed by Executive Director (HR-Learning & Development), MTI-SAIL, Shri Sanjay Dhar and Dean–Industry Connect, MDI Gurgaon, Prof. Sumita Rai.

The signing ceremony was attended by SAIL Director (Personnel) Shri K. K. Singh along with senior executives and representatives from both SAIL and MDI Gurgaon.

Industry experts believe that such collaborations between public sector enterprises and premier management institutions are increasingly important as organizations adapt to rapidly changing industrial environments shaped by digital transformation, sustainability goals and global competition.

The initiative also reflects the growing emphasis among Indian public sector enterprises on leadership modernization, talent development and innovation-led organizational growth.

As one of India's largest steel producers, SAIL has been actively investing in modernization, operational efficiency and workforce development to strengthen its competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

MDI Gurgaon, meanwhile, is regarded as one of India's leading business schools with expertise in executive education, leadership development and industry-focused management programmes.

Officials noted that the partnership is expected to create a robust platform for knowledge-sharing, strategic capability-building and leadership transformation within the organization.
