The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has addressed a notice to the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) after a video surfaced online showing catering staff allegedly cleaning utensils in a train's toilet area. The FSSAI, reacting swiftly to the social media post, has termed the act highly objectionable.
The video, captured by a passenger on train number 12223 - LTT ERS Duronto, portrays the unhygienic practice which the regulator argues could significantly threaten food safety. Citing the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011, FSSAI highlights the necessity of maintaining hygiene to prevent contamination. Since similar proactive actions have been taken in other cases, the FSSAI expects a prompt explanation from IRCTC.
