Drone Debris Sparks Security Concerns in Moldova
A drone crossed into Moldova from Ukraine, and its fragments were found near the village of Lopatna, with explosion traces. Moldova's defense ministry highlighted this incident amid Russian attacks on Ukraine, stressing regional security risks and the need for high-tech interceptor drones.
Early Monday, a drone incident heightened security tensions in Moldova, as fragments with explosion residues were discovered near Lopatna, close to Ukraine's border, according to officials.
The Ministry of Defense confirmed that their surveillance systems tracked the drone's crossing at 12.20 a.m. local time, following which debris was located, suggesting a prior detonation.
Amid ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, Moldova faces increased security threats, prompting calls for advanced interceptor drones and new legislation to bolster defense capabilities, stated President Maia Sandu.
