Australian cryptoking, Sam Karagiozis, who lost millions of dollars following Bitcoin's price crash, has been charged with importing, trafficking and possessing 30 kilograms of illicit drugs. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) confirmed that they arrested Karagiozis following investigations into an organized crime syndicate. The arrest was made by joint efforts of the AFP and Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC).

The authorities also seized steroids, cash and other items related to cryptocurrency. They believe Karagiozis directed the operations of the syndicate. It has been alleged that the group used various darknet sites, bitcoin accounts and legitimate business for the sourcing, payment and distribution of the illicit drugs. AFP has frozen Karagiozis's $2 million worth of assets, including properties, bank accounts, cash, crypto and vehicles.

Dr Nathan Newman, AUSTRAC national manager, regulatory operations, said their role is to deter and disrupt criminal exploitation of Australia's financial system. "We take swift action where there is a reasonable risk of compromise. Our decision to suspend the registration of Karagiozis's two businesses means they can no longer lawfully operate." Paul Hopkins, AFP Detective Superintendent, said they hit offenders where it hurts them the most. "Combined with serious criminal charges attracting long prison sentences, this highlights how trafficking drugs are simply not worth it in the long run," Hopkins said Karagiozis's present situation is a far cry from the lavish life, he is used to.

Australian authorities are very tough on drug traffickers and those involved in illegal activities.
