Mark Carney said the only work he is planning once he leaves the Bank of England is his recently announced climate finance role with the United Nations after a slip of the tongue prompted a question about whether he might stay in central banking. "The only clear plans I have are this role, helping out on action climate finance for the U.N.," Carney - who is due to leave the BoE on Jan. 31 - told reporters.

Earlier in the news conference, the Canadian seemed to be about to refer to the Bank of Canada instead of the Bank of England, prompting a question from a reporter about whether he was thinking about future roles other than with the U.N. The Bank of Canada will be looking for a new governor after the current incumbent Stephen Poloz announced last week that he would retire in June. Carney was Bank of Canada governor before moving to London to run the Bank of England in 2013.

Carney is due to take up a new role as the U.N.'s special envoy on climate action and climate finance from next year.
