Nigeria's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for an emergency response to educate Nigerians on how to prevent disasters after the Abule-Ado explosion in Lagos, according to a news report by Daily Trust.

National Publicity Secretary, (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan said in a statement that an overhaul of the nation's emergency management would strengthen quick responses to disasters.

Ologbondiyan said, "the party expressed worry over the spate of explosions and other "avoidable disasters" in Lagos and other strategic states of the federation."

"The PDP deeply commiserates with the victims of the explosion and urged relevant authorities as well as public-spirited individuals, groups, and establishments to come to their aid," the statement noted.

An explosion at a gas processing plant on Sunday killed at least 15 people and destroyed about 50 buildings after a fire broke out in a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said the explosion was triggered after a truck hit some gas cylinders stacked in a gas processing plant near the corporation's pipeline in Abule Ado area of Lagos state. The impact of the explosion led to the collapse of nearby houses, damaged NNPC's pipeline and caused the corporation to halt pumping operations on the Atlas Cove-Mosimi pipeline, the state-owned oil company said in a statement.
