The IPFT, an ally of Tripuras

ruling BJP Thursday alleged that opposition CPI(M) and INPT,

were involved in the Madhabbari incident, where at least seven

persons were injured when protesters opposing the Citizenship

Amendment Bill clashed with police on Tuesday.

Both the CPI(M) and the Indigenous Nationalist Party

of Tripura (INPT) termed the allegations made by the

Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) as baseless.

Mevar Kumar Jamatiya, general secretary of IPFT, who

is also the state Tribal Welfare minister in a press

conference here Thursday alleged that "CPI(M) and INPT had

hatched a conspiracy to destabilise the government. They were

involved in the Madhabbari incident and indulged in violence,

which resulted in police firing."

Jamatiya said "We demand a judicial inquiry into this

incident to unearth the truth."

CPI(M) state secretary, Gautam Das said, "We condemn

this baseless allegation made by IPFT. The allegation is

completely baseless. None of our party was anyway involved

with the incident. They are making this allegation only to

hide their own misdeeds."

Das said the CPI(M) condemns the Madhabbari incident.

The INPT general secretary, Jagadish Debbarma said the

allegation made by IPFT is totally baseless.

"They are making this allegation just to suppress the

failure of the administration. Their allegation is completely

baseless," Debbarma said.

Jamatiya said mature leaders of Twipra Student

Federation (TSF), the student wing of IPFT were not present

during the blockade of the road at Madhabbari and the leaders

of INPT and CPI(M) "misguided the movement.

"There were no mature leaders at Madhabbari, only few

youths of TSF were there. Taking this opportunity the CPI(M

and INPT leaders misguided the movement. We want truth should

come out, so we wanted judicial inquiry into the incident," he

said.

Asked if their alliance with BJP was running into

"rough weather" Jamatiya said, "Our party would soon discuss

the issue in our executive committees meeting very shortly.

I am not going to comment on this matter alone because that

will be decided by our party.
