Telangana Chief Minister

K Chandrasekhar Rao plans to perform yet another mega "homam"

(ritual), this time to ensure the welfare of the people of the

state.

KCR, as Rao is popularly called, would perform a five-day

'Maha Rudhra Sahitha Sahasra Chandi Maha Yagam' at his farm

house in Erravelli village in Siddipet district from January

21 to 25, party sources said.

"The Yagam isto seek blessings from the goddess of

Chandi (Durga) for the welfare of the people.

Wherever this Yagam is performed, there would not be any

distress, untimely deaths and farmers will be blessed with

abundant crops.

As many as 250 priests would take part in the ritual,"

they said.

Ahead of the December 7 elections, KCR performed a "Raja

Syamala Yagam" at his farm house under the guidance of the

seer of the Sri Visakha Sarada Peetham for the victory of his

party in the polls.

Before undertaking a tour to garner support for his

anti-congress, anti-BJP front, KCR had visited the seer at

Visakhapatnam and sought his blessings.

Rao, who has openly admitted that he strongly believed in

ancient Hindu customs and rituals, said he was conducting such

rituals to ensure the welfare of the state.

During the poll campaign, he even dismissed Prime

Minister Narendra Modi's remarks on his beliefs saying that he

will give "prasadam" to the PM if he attended his "Yagam."

KCR steered his party to a thumping victory and took over

the reins of India's newest state for a second straight term.

In the December 7 elections, the TRS won 88 seats in the

119-member assembly. Congress-led People's Front ended up with

a tally of mere 21.
