A 17-year-old worker has died, and another sustained injuries after a compound wall at an under-construction apartment building here collapsed on them, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Bhimesh from Panchamukhi village in Raichur district. The injured worker, 32-year-old Doolayya from Gunjala village, is being treated at a nearby hospital, they said. Police said the incident happened on Monday afternoon at a construction site in Chikkabanasawadi.
According to police, six workers were clearing rainwater and mud that had gathered near the compound wall after recent rains. At around 2 pm, the wall suddenly collapsed on the workers.
Three workers managed to escape safely, but Bhimesh and Doolayya got trapped under the debris and were seriously injured. Bhimesh later died in hospital, a senior police officer said.
Residents blamed poor construction and negligence by the builder and site owners for the accident.
Police have registered a case against the building owner at Banaswadi Police Station for causing death due to negligence. Further investigation is underway.
