Delhi and Centre Collaborate on Six Key Projects to Reduce NCR Traffic

The Delhi government, in collaboration with the central government, plans six major road projects to ease congestion in the NCR. The initiatives include expressway links and new corridors to improve connectivity and reduce traffic in key areas by 2027, with costs running into thousands of crores.

To address the persistent traffic congestion across Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR), the Delhi government, in unison with the central government, has revealed plans for six significant road projects. This announcement came from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a briefing.

Key among these initiatives is the 'Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Link Project', set to construct a six-lane, 17-kilometer corridor linking existing expressways. Another vital development includes the 'Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Noida-Faridabad Connectivity Corridor', expected to cover about 65 kilometers. The series of projects aims to resolve traffic bottlenecks by late 2027, marking significant policy strides in urban mobility.

The projects, requiring substantial investments, are strategically designed to meet future traffic demands and encompass the creation of new expressway junctions and elevated corridors. These will not only facilitate smoother connectivity between Delhi and its neighboring cities but also provide vital links to economic hubs.
