The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) reported significant progress in its desilting operations, with 80% of the second phase completed. The remaining work aims to conclude by June 15, ensuring the city is prepared for the monsoon season.

During an inspection, Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal evaluated drainage systems prone to waterlogging from Africa Avenue to RK Ashram Marg. Two areas, South Avenue and Janpath, are under scrutiny for further improvements. Advanced monitoring, including CCTV and sensor systems, are being deployed to manage heavy rainfall effectively.

NDMC's first phase of work included clearing thousands of bell mouths, gully traps, and manholes, completed by March 31. The council plans to introduce de-watering pumps, additional manpower, and control rooms to alleviate monsoon challenges. Overall, the goal is to transform the NDMC area into a "zero waterlogging-sensitive zone."

Collaboration with other Delhi agencies, such as the Public Works Department and the Meteorological Department, is also in place to enhance emergency response during heavy rains. GIS mapping of drainage networks is underway to bolster water management strategies.
