Rahul trains gun on Modi over BJP's 'Main bhi chowkidar' push

Congress president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the BJP's 'Main bhi chowkidar' campaign, insisting the Rafale deal has "exposed" the "chowkidar" himself. The BJP recently launched the Main bhi chowkidar campaign as a counteroffensive to Gandhi's oft-repeated 'Chowkidar chor hai' jibe against the prime minister.

As part of the campaign, Modi and other party leaders, including BJP president Amit Shah, prefixed the word chowkidar (watchman) to their names in their Twitter profile as they sought people's support in the Lok Sabha elections. Several cabinet colleagues of Modi, including External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, prefixed chowkidar (watchman) to their names.

"The chowkidar of the country has been exposed in the Rafale deal. When chowkidar himself turns a thief, how will the country progress?" Gandhi told a public rally here. Gandhi repeated his allegation of Modi's complicity in award of offset contract for the fighter jet deal to the Anil Ambani group ignoring the claims of public sector aerospace and defence major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Both the government and the Ambani group have rejected the charge.

"When you (Modi) are stealing everything, why you have made all your leaders chowkidar?" the Congress leader asked. PTI UPL SK SK SK.
