97 out of 110 candidates clear nominations for LS polls in Mumbai

Out of the 110 candidates who filed their nominations for four Lok Sabha seats in suburban Mumbai, papers of 97 of them were found to be valid, said an election office functionary Wednesday. The four Lok Sabha constituencies, which fall in Mumbai suburban district, had received nominations from 110 candidates, said the functionary from the office of Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

After scrutiny, the nominations of 13 candidates were rejected, while papers of 97 others were found to be valid, he said. Among the valid nominations, 28 candidates are in Mumbai North-East, 25 in Mumbai North and 22 each in Mumbai North-West and Mumbai North-Central, he said.

The metropolis has two more Lok Sabha constituencies - Mumbai-South and Mumbai South-Central. In all, 156 candidates filed their nominations from the six constituencies in Mumbai, where polling will be held on April 29.

Candidates can withdraw from the fray till April 12.
